From a paper route to a global mission to help educate the world from K through 20.
Michael K. Clifford's journey did not begin in a boardroom. It began as a young trumpet player, and at 25 he stepped away from music full-time to figure out how business and ministry could be combined into one calling.
His story reaches even further back to a paper route at age 13, where he learned two truths he still lives by: work is sacred, and serving people creates opportunity.
Those early lessons shaped a lifetime of entrepreneurship across education, finance, media, and philanthropy — all anchored in a biblical worldview that calls him to help people live better lives.

Over the past 25 years, Clifford has helped build and scale institutions that reshaped higher education: Grand Canyon University, Bridgepoint Education, Woz U with Steve Wozniak, the Jack Welch Management Institute, Forbes Business School, BethelTech, and others he cannot publicly disclose.
His work has helped create thousands of high-paying jobs, generated billions in value, and opened doors for hundreds of thousands of students.
Along the way, he has raised over $400M in charitable gifts, built Christian psychological treatment centers, sold the largest Six Sigma consulting agreement in history, co-managed a presidential campaign, produced major films, and directed more than $1.2B of investment into real estate for schools. He has made and lost tens of millions — and believes failure has been his greatest teacher.

Today, Clifford's passion has sharpened into a single mission: to offer the world high-quality K–12 education at a fraction of today's cost. He believes ancient biblical truths, paired with modern AI technology, can finally make excellent learning accessible to every child on earth.
Through MKC Advisor, he partners with universities and CEOs to grow enrollment, reduce operating costs, and build AI-enabled systems that are structurally leaner, more humane, and more effective. His team has lived inside the institutions they now advise — which means they see the minefields before others know they exist.
Their proprietary AI Operating Layer integrates multiple best-in-class models to streamline operations, improve retention, and reduce expenses by up to 30 percent.

Then join MKC on this new quest — from a paper route to a global mission to help educate the world from K through 20.
MKC does not manage money. We manage the conditions that make capital perform. Our most instructive lessons came not from the home runs — but from the failures that preceded them.
MKC co-architected the transformation of a small, financially stressed Christian college in Phoenix into one of the most successful university IPOs in modern American history. The November 2008 offering delivered a 1,200% return to investors over four years — the best-performing IPO of its class during the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
Six months after the GCU IPO, MKC co-founded Bridgepoint Education, listing on the NYSE in April 2009 as one of only four companies to successfully go public in a near-frozen IPO market. Bridgepoint ranked among the best-performing IPOs of 2009, growing revenue from $85 million to $218 million in a single year.
MKC served on the Advisory Board of Class Acceleration Corp. — the first and largest pure-play digital learning SPAC in the United States, led by Michael Moe of Global Silicon Valley. The offering closed at $258.75 million on the NYSE with the full over-allotment exercised, every dollar placed in trust.
A technology infrastructure engagement produced a 9,900% return on investment within 24 months. Details are confidential under NDA — consistent with MKC's practice of protecting client relationships above public attribution.
MKC has served as personal advisor to CEOs of multi-billion-dollar publicly traded companies and major nonprofits — providing counsel on strategies, talent, and M&A that leadership could not surface through their own organizations.
MKC's track record includes outcomes that did not perform as modeled. We do not footnote these. We lead with them. The practical wisdom embedded in those experiences is what distinguishes MKC from advisors who have only managed success.
Across every engagement, MKC's consistent observation is that the single variable most predictive of outsized returns is human capital quality. MKC's UAE office and global relationship network exist primarily to source, vet, and place exceptional talent into partnerships and client organizations worldwide.

Past performance is not indicative of future results. All investment returns cited are based on publicly available data where noted. NDA-protected engagements are referenced in summary form only. MKC Advisor, LLC does not operate as a registered investment advisor.
MKC has been part of higher education from the first regionally accredited online degree to the first digital learning SPAC. That insider knowledge is the foundation of every engagement.
Our managed service deploys a headless, API-driven, event-driven microservices architecture powered by high-fidelity digital twinning. This creates a dynamic, executable model of your institution's operational graph with secure read/write access to legacy systems, unifying disparate data into one coherent, scalable fabric.
The engine orchestrates a specialized “stew” of best-in-class LLMs, predictive models, and workflow engines recorded on an immutable ledger for 100% auditability. This technical engine allows you to systematically decommission legacy silos, eliminating licensing fees, maintenance, and technical debt via autonomous, flawless execution.
By automating high-volume, cross-departmental workflows, we structurally optimize SG&A and eliminate operational friction. This hyper-responsive, self-service model programmatically lowers Student Acquisition Cost (SAC) and scales Lifetime Value (LTV) through algorithmic retention analysis and frictionless, end-to-end enrollment cycles.
Employer-sponsored corporate channels, train-the-trainer pipelines, international pathways, and AI-powered outreach reaching learners traditional marketing never finds. Performance-based, royalty-driven. No direct marketing cost to the institution.
AI amplifies what is already true. MKC uncovers what is already true and gives it language, structure, and conviction to travel. Done for the Ken Blanchard College, Jack Welch Institute, Forbes Business School, and WozEd.
A proprietary multi-model AI Operating Layer atop existing SIS, LMS, CRM, and ERP infrastructure. Target: 13–30% operating cost reduction, compounding toward 50% over four years.
Crisis-level advisory across operating model redesign, cost architecture, revenue diversification, and — where warranted — merger, affiliation, or teach-out strategy. We have lived these situations.
Structural redesign creating a cost position that funds innovation rather than constraining it. The goal is not cutting. It is redeployment of capital toward what serves students and advances the institution.
Underutilized physical assets are often the most overlooked source of capital. Full lifecycle support — informed by watching GCU invest $2B in its campus, debt-free, in four years.
Multi-phased guidance from strategic fit assessment through due diligence, governance design, and integration. MKC has been on both sides of these transactions.
Venture capital discipline applied to institutional fundraising. Faith-based investor networks, sovereign wealth relationships, family office connections — cultivated over decades.
New credentials, bootcamps, workforce programs, B2B corporate agreements — multi-line revenue systems reducing dependence on any single channel.
Employer-paid learning pipelines, dual enrollment, upskilling partnerships, and B2B tuition agreements. Recurring revenue. Long-term relevance.
From static websites to 24/7 enrollment engines — AI-driven personalization, conversion tools, and performance dashboards.
Experienced interim leaders in CFO, Controller, and campus finance roles. Not placeholders — operators who diagnose, stabilize, and build while the permanent search proceeds.
Through Excelara.org and SchoolChoiceUSA.org, MKC advises Catholic and faith-based K–12 networks on mission-aligned hybrid and online solutions. The full K–20 spectrum under one advisory relationship.
Human capital quality is the single variable most predictive of institutional success. Through our UAE office and global network we source, vet, and place exceptional leaders worldwide.
Grand Canyon University became the first regionally accredited university to offer a fully online degree — a milestone MKC was part of from the inside. Online 1.0 proved the model was possible.
Institutions raced to build online programs through expensive advertising cycles. Many scaled rapidly then contracted just as fast. Online 2.0 proved that volume without cost discipline was not sustainable.
After seven years of iterating AI-driven enrollment and operational systems across real institutions, MKC has developed Online 3.0 — growing enrollment through undiscovered channels while reducing operating costs 13–30%.
MKC operates on a shared-risk, royalty-based structure. We do not charge for marketing, technology deployment, or student acquisition. Our compensation is tied to tuition revenue generated through our channels. This is a co-venture — built to improve, compound, and last.
Michael K. Clifford's approach is shaped as much by his failures as by his results. Ken Blanchard calls this servant leadership. Jack Welch called it relentless accountability. MKC practices both, simultaneously.
Create a winning strategy, recruit the right capital, marketing, and management to scale the business, then hand the reins to professional managers after the crucial first five years.

Founded in a garage, the modern iteration of GCU began when MKC's Significant Education LLC acquired the struggling, debt-laden institution in 2004. By implementing a hybrid online and campus-based model, MKC and his recruited management team stabilized the university and set it on a path of explosive growth.

Launched in 2004, Bridgepoint was designed to bring private sector efficiencies to higher education. After acquiring two small institutions including the predecessor to Ashford University, MKC established the strategic framework and recruited Warburg Pincus for capital.

In 2009, MKC approached legendary GE CEO Jack Welch with a vision: democratize Welch's management philosophy through a premier online MBA program. Co-created by Welch and Clifford, JWMI was launched to provide working adults with a high-caliber business education.

MKC's model of pairing strategic vision with iconic brands continues today. Partnering with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, MKC co-created Woz ED, a K-12 STEM education company serving inner-city public schools nationwide.
Results speak plainly.
So does our calendar.
For Michael K. Clifford, philanthropy is not a line item or a legacy strategy. It is the whole point. The businesses exist to fund the mission.

Founded in 1994 by Pastor Matthew Barnett and his father Tommy Barnett — longtime friend and mentor to Michael K. Clifford through Phoenix First Assembly of God — the Dream Center began with little more than a dream and a bag of groceries. Thirty years later it serves more than 45,000 individuals and families every month across more than 20 underserved communities in LA County. The Dream Center provides free residential recovery programs, food distribution, housing, addiction rehabilitation, human trafficking rescue, job training, and educational support. Its model has inspired more than 84 affiliated Dream Centers in 29 states and 8 countries worldwide.
Ministry.com is MKC's own charitable vehicle — a nonprofit platform conceived to bridge the worlds of faith, technology, and education in service of the gospel. It serves as the connective tissue between MKC's philanthropic, educational, and ministry relationships: a place where networks cultivated across decades can be channeled toward shared kingdom purposes. The name says everything about the intent: not a brand, not a business. A calling given structure.

Excelara was founded to address one of the most urgent and underserved problems in American faith-based education: the financial and operational fragility of Catholic and Christian K–12 schools. Through a hybrid and online "school in a box" model, Excelara provides smaller faith-based school networks with the curriculum infrastructure and operational framework they need to survive — and thrive — without sacrificing mission.

School Choice USA guides families across all 50 states through Education Savings Accounts, school vouchers, tax credit scholarships, and private school choice programs — at no cost. The platform has helped more than one million families access funding options they did not know existed.
MKC takes on a limited number of engagements at any time — by design. We are not a staffing firm or a report factory. If you are facing a decision where the margin for error is low, this is the right conversation to have.
MKC will be in touch within one business day. All inquiries are strictly confidential.
MKC's first conversation is a direct exchange — no pitch deck, no discovery template. We listen to the situation, ask pointed questions, and tell you plainly whether and how we can help.
A significant portion of MKC's work is governed by NDA. We extend the same discretion to every inquiry — named or not, early-stage or urgent. Nothing you share will leave the room without your permission.
